Japanese Ministry

The Japanese Ministry has been part of the First Lutheran Church for a number of years. Pastor Yamamoto started the ministry with the help and encouragement of the then Senior Pastor Dean Nelson. Pastor Yamamoto and his wife, Fumie, started the ministry with just one member. During their years, they made a number of contributions to the FLCS community, including Japanese Garden and "Japan Night" which is being continued as annual "Festival Japan" celebrations.

Pastor Fumio Itoh and his wife, Yasuko, continued and expanded what Pastor Yamamoto started. In addition his duties at FLCS, Pastor Itoh had taken care of our sister congregation, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection Japanese Ministry, in two-point parish model, in Huntington Beach. With the help of both churches senior pastors, two synods, two Bishops and ELCA, he laid the foundations of tomorrow for the native Japanese language ministry in the USA.
